Directed Energy Research Center are seeking a highly motivated Lead Software Engineer to join TII and contribute to the development and implementation of a spaceborne SAR payload.
The role involves leading a software team responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining on-board and ground software/firmware components that support instrument operations, data acquisition, and performance monitoring.
The job also requires managing and mentoring a team of junior engineers.
Job Responsibilities:
Define software architecture and ensure alignment with system-level requirements and mission objectives.
Oversee the development of on-board embedded software for instrument control, data handling, and telemetry.
Coordinate the development of ground support software/firmware for integration, testing, and operational monitoring.
Ensure compliance with space industry standards and mission-specific operations requirements.
Collaborate with system engineers, hardware designers, and mission operations teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
Develop and maintain software verification and validation plans, including automated testing frameworks.
Implement and oversee end-to-end encryption protocols for satellite telemetry, tracking, command (TT&C), and payload data.
Manage software configuration control, documentation, and versioning.
Support anomaly investigations and contribute to software updates during the operational phase of the mission.
Provide training and mentorship to a team of young engineers in the relevant technical domain.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science or similar field.
At least 10 years of practical experience developing SW.
Proven experience in leading software development teams, preferably in aerospace or high-reliability environments.
Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL, and embedded systems development.
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), software testing, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
Familiarity with space mission software standards and protocols, such as the ECSS and CCSDS.
Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
Proficient in English language, both written and spoken.
