About the role

 

The Lead - Global Logistics role is open in Melbourne, Australia; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Jakarta, Indonesia. Sitting within the Global Supply Chain team, the role is responsible for leading chartering and post-fixture activities across bulk, breakbulk, and containerised cargo, while also supporting liner freight sourcing and supplier management. The position focuses on delivering efficient, reliable, and commercially sound freight solutions aligned with business and customer requirements.

 

Combining strong technical chartering expertise with commercial acumen, the role acts as a key interface between commercial, operations, and external shipping partners. It ensures logistics solutions are aligned with S&OP plans and delivered in line with financial targets, service expectations, and strict regulatory and safety standards.

What you will be doing

 

  • Lead end-to-end chartering activities (Voyage, COA, Time Charter) while developing commercially optimized freight solutions that balance cost, service, and risk.
  • Act as a key advisor on freight market dynamics and support the development of global freight strategy (short- to mid-term).
  • Align logistics solutions with customer delivery requirements (DIFOT) while partnering with Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations to translate demand into effective shipping strategies.
  • Deliver timely, commercially sound freight quotations and drive customer satisfaction through reliable, efficient, and cost-effective execution.
  • Plan and schedule vessels to meet demand and compliance requirements, ensuring timely shipment execution and proactive resolution of operational issues while working closely with Distribution Teams to enable seamless cargo movement.
  • Oversee post-fixture activities to ensure contractual compliance and operational efficiency, including monitoring charter party performance, managing claims, and ensuring all contracts adhere to internal governance and delegation of authority (DOA).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, brokers, and freight forwarders while managing supplier performance through structured KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support liner freight sourcing and liner management to drive efficient, reliable, and cost-effective logistics operations.
  • Provide freight market intelligence and insights, benchmark rates and contracting strategies against market trends, and identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with global shipping guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards while supporting the standardization of global chartering processes.

What you will bring

 

  • Proven experience in chartering (8+ years), with strong expertise in bulk and breakbulk shipping, including deep knowledge of charter party negotiation, freight markets, vessel operations, and post-fixture processes.
  • Strong commercial and analytical capability, with the ability to interpret market data, work within industrial sectors (e.g. mining, energy, chemicals), and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Logistics, Maritime, Business or a related field, with the ability to engage effectively across stakeholders and drive value in global supply chain operations.
  • Exposure to Class 1 and Class 5 cargo, liner shipping, and global logistics environments, with working knowledge of SAP systems and Australian coastal trading requirements considered highly advantageous.
