Eaton is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its Global Data Centre Design & Engineering team, supporting mission‑critical data centre projects worldwide.
In this role, you will shape global electrical reference designs and engineering standards, while working directly on high‑impact projects across multiple regions. You’ll support data centre programmes from concept through detailed design, partnering closely with global customers and internal engineering teams.
This position offers a unique mix of hands‑on electrical design and global technical leadership, operating across both IEC and North American standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL). You’ll play a key role in ensuring consistent, high‑quality engineering delivery while contributing to Eaton’s long‑term data centre strategy.
What You’ll Do
Electrical Design & Engineering
- Lead and contribute to electrical system design for mission‑critical facilities, including hyperscale and enterprise data centres.
- Develop MV and LV designs, covering distribution, transformers, UPS, protection, and grounding systems.
- Support all design stages from concept to detailed design across multiple client accounts.
- Perform core engineering tasks including calculations, equipment selection, and technical validation.
- Prepare technical proposals and engineering documentation.
- Lead and participate in internal and client‑facing technical meetings.
Global Engineering Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of global electrical reference designs and architectures.
- Contribute to the definition and rollout of global engineering standards and guidelines.
- Drive alignment and consistency of electrical practices across regions.
- Participate in cross‑regional coordination and peer reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to regional teams.
- Represent Eaton’s electrical expertise with customers and engineering partners.
- Support resolution of complex, multi‑region engineering challenges.
Strategic Global Account Support
- Provide engineering support to strategic global data centre customers across regions.
- Support development of client‑specific reference designs and standards.
- Participate in technical engagements with customers and partners.
- Support engineering coordination for large, multi‑region programmes.
- Contribute to long‑term technical partnerships with key accounts.
Modular and Digital Engineering Integration
- Support electrical integration for modular and prefabricated data centre solutions.
- Contribute to repeatable designs and reference architectures.
- Support BIM‑led workflows, collaborating closely with BIM and digital engineering teams.
- Assist in the development of standardised modular electrical platforms.
Technical Governance & Quality
- Review and validate deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Support QA/QC processes across global projects.
- Ensure compliance with Eaton standards and customer requirements.
- Support technical risk identification and mitigation.
- Participate in structured design reviews to maintain quality and safety.
Collaboration with R&D and Advanced Architecture Teams
- Collaborate on new data centre electrical architectures and emerging approaches.
- Provide engineering input to transition concepts into deployable solutions.
- Support handover of validated architectures into global reference designs.
- Provide project feedback to support continuous improvement.
Project and Site Support
- Provide remote engineering support and conduct site visits as required.
- Perform on‑site inspections to verify installations.
- Support validation and commissioning during project handover and close‑out.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficiency with electrical design tools such as AutoCAD and Revit is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical engineering design within mission‑critical or comparable environments.
- Strong expertise across MV and LV systems, including distribution, transformers, UPS, grounding, and protection schemes.
- In‑depth knowledge of international electrical codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, and IEC.
- Demonstrated capability in value engineering and applying emerging technologies to deliver efficient, innovative solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑driven, proactive, and capable of independent ownership of objectives and deliverables.
