Job Description

A Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of a restaurant's kitchen. This position requires someone with a keen interest in the culinary industry and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Kitchen Helpers are responsible for ensuring cleanliness, organizing supplies, and supporting the chefs and line cooks by preparing ingredients and assisting with basic kitchen tasks. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain kitchen experience and develop their skills, as it offers hands-on opportunities to learn about food preparation and safety standards. The Kitchen Helper must be reliable, have good communication skills, and work collaboratively as part of a team to maintain an organized and efficient kitchen environment.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations regularly.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of food items in the kitchen.
  • Assist with inventory management by monitoring supplies and informing supervisors of shortages.
  • Help chefs and cooks with basic cooking tasks and food assembly activities.
  • Dispose of waste and sanitize garbage bins in accordance with health standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen.
  • Handle deliveries, including receiving, unpacking, and stocking kitchen supplies.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely meal preparation.
  • Operate and clean dishwashing machines and assist with dishwashing duties as needed.
  • Monitor kitchen areas to ensure they are tidy and free of hazards at all times.
  • Assist in preparing and arranging ingredients for line cooks during service hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food industry setting is advantageous.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety practices and standards.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts as needed.
