As an Inpatient (IP) Medical Coder, you play a vital role in the healthcare industry by managing patient information and ensuring accurate billing. Responsibilities
Review and comprehend medical records to extract essential data for coding.
Ensure codes are accurate with medical standards and billing guidelines.
Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers to clarify diagnosis details.
Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient records.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and healthcare laws.
Conduct coding audits and provide feedback to improve accuracy rates.
Generate reports on coding activities to support billing processes.
Utilize coding software tools efficiently to enhance workflow processes.
Support the resolution of coding-related billing issues and discrepancies.
Participate in ongoing education and training to advance coding skills.
Ensure patient information confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Coordinate with billing departments to manage electronic claim submissions.
Requirements
Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) strongly preferred.
Minimum of two years' experience in an inpatient coding environment.
Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems is essential.
Proficient with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software tools.
Excellent attention to detail to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial for this role.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
