Job Description

As an IP Coding Team Leader, you will lead and manage a dynamic team dedicated to ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of medical coding and billing processes. Your role is integral to maintaining compliance with the latest coding standards and maximizing revenue cycle performance. You will utilize your comprehensive knowledge of medical coding systems, leadership skills, and strong attention to detail to oversee daily operations, provide technical guidance, and foster an environment of continuous improvement. This position requires excellent communication skills as you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, train staff, and incorporate best practices to drive overall team success. Your expertise will be key in optimizing workflows, auditing coding quality, and mitigating risks associated with coding errors.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the IP coding team to achieve departmental goals efficiently.
  • Review and update policies to ensure compliance with the latest coding standards.
  • Implement and oversee training programs to maintain high coding accuracy.
  • Conduct regular audits of coding work to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Serve as the point of contact for resolving complex coding issues and inquiries.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to streamline workflows and processes.
  • Monitor team performance metrics and develop strategies to enhance productivity.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of coding practices and procedures.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss updates, challenges, and best practices.
  • Guide team members in career development and provide support for skill enhancement.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and optimize resource utilization.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of patient records during the coding process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in inpatient coding and team management.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems is essential.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and coding software is required.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret complex medical coding scenarios accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage projects effectively is essential.
