Job Description

The role of an Import and Export Manager is critical for businesses that engage in international trade and seek to optimize their imports and exports to enhance profitability. As an Import and Export Manager, you will oversee and streamline the entire process of importing and exporting goods, ensuring compliance with international and domestic regulations. The job requires a strategic thinker who can manage risks and improve supply chain logistics to meet customer demands efficiently. Success in this role hinges upon an intricate understanding of international trade laws, logistics, and global market trends, along with a strong ability to negotiate and form relationships with suppliers and other business partners globally.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement import and export operational strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of documentation required for international shipments.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with suppliers and freight forwarders.
  • Coordinate with various departments to optimize the supply chain and transport logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations for both importing and exporting goods.
  • Maintain robust relationships with key logistics partners and government agencies.
  • Monitor the performance of shipments to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Analyze market trends to make informed decisions on import and export activities.
  • Manage the resolution of problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports, or exports.
  • Establish and maintain metrics to ensure performance falls within established KPIs.
  • Lead and mentor a team of logistics and trade compliance professionals.
  • Ensure risk management for the whole process of imports and exports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in import and export management is required.
  • Thorough understanding of international trade laws and compliance standards.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic operational policies and implement them effectively.
  • Experience with cargo software and other logistics systems is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a mindset for continuous enhancement.
