Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer is a crucial role within any organization, tasked with ensuring that the workplace complies with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations. This role demands a proactive approach to creating a safe and healthy work environment as well as the ability to react promptly to safety emergencies. The HSE Officer will develop and implement safety policies and procedures, conduct risk assessments, and train staff to maintain a high standard of workplace safety. The candidate will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and compliance, encouraging continuous improvement, and mitigating risks across various operations. The goal is to safeguard employee wellbeing, protect assets, and ensure compliance with legal guidelines.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to regulatory health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and report findings to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with departments to integrate safety practices into daily operations.
  • Conduct safety training sessions and workshops for employees at all levels.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of incidents, inspections, trainings, and certifications.
  • Collaborate with management to develop emergency response plans and safety strategies.
  • Monitor changes in legislation or trade standards affecting health, safety, or environment.
  • Advise on a variety of specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, and noise.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental protection.
  • Engage with employees and management to foster open communication regarding safety matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar HSE role within the industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills to conduct training sessions and report findings.
  • Proficiency in using software applications for preparing reports and managing data.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions on HSE matters.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA will be considered an asset.
