Job Description

The Health Safety Environment (HSE) Officer is an integral part of an organization's commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. They are tasked with overseeing workplace safety and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. HSE Officers conduct risk assessments, develop safety protocols, and train employees on best practices in workplace safety. They play a crucial role in maintaining a culture of safety and prevention, addressing potential hazards before they become issues. Additionally, HSE Officers work closely with management to implement health and safety policies and procedures, as well as ensure that employees adhere to safety standards. Their work not only protects employees but also contributes to the operational integrity and legal compliance of the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environment protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
  • Train employees on safety policies, environmental regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents to determine root causes and preventive measures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety across the organization.
  • Monitor and review hazardous materials' handling procedures and waste management practices.
  • Provide recommendations for safety improvements and address violations promptly.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate safety standards and expectations clearly to all tiers of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an HSE role with proven responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing risks and implementing effective safety measures.
  • Excellent communication and training skills to educate staff on HSE practices.
  • Certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH is preferred and highly advantageous.
  • Ability to remain vigilant in high-risk environments and respond to emergencies effectively.
