Health Care Assistants provide essential support to patients or clients who may be elderly, disabled, or recovering from illness or surgery. They assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitor patient health, and ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
Responsibilities:
Assist patients or clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting as needed.
Help individuals with mobility, including transferring between beds and wheelchairs or using mobility aids like walkers or canes.
Prepare and serve meals, assist with feeding if necessary, and ensure patients or clients stay hydrated and receive proper nutrition.
Administer medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals, following proper protocols.
Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards for patients, including changing bed linens, assisting with oral care, and keeping living spaces tidy.
Provide emotional support, companionship, and reassurance to patients or clients, addressing their emotional and social needs.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including care plans, observations, and any changes in condition.
Report changes in patient condition or concerns to nurses or healthcare providers.
Ensure the safety of patients by preventing falls, maintaining a hazard-free environment, and adhering to infection control practices.
Assist with physical therapy exercises and rehabilitation activities as directed.
Provide palliative care and support to patients and families during end-of-life situations, ensuring comfort and dignity.
Encourage and support clients in maintaining their independence and self-care abilities when possible.
Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program or equivalent training program.
State certification or licensure may be required, depending on the location.
CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Compassion and empathy for patients or clients.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients when necessary.
Attention to detail and a focus on patient safety.
Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity in patient populations.
Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.
