Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to join our team. As a pivotal figure in our organization's safety management strategy, you will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety laws. You will work closely with departments across the organization to cultivate a safety-first culture, providing guidance and training where necessary. Ideal candidates will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in the diverse contexts of workplace safety.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver health and safety training sessions for staff at various levels of the organization.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Liaise with external health and safety authorities when necessary, ensuring compliance and transparency.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety activities, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Provide expert guidance on emergency procedures and preparedness strategies.
  • Collaborate with management to integrate health and safety objectives into business plans.
  • Stay informed of new health and safety legislation and advise the management team accordingly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a health and safety role.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and influence staff.
  • Proficient in using safety management software and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations effectively.
  • Professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is highly desirable.
