Job Description

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that workplace safety protocols are followed, maintaining compliance with health regulations, and implementing effective health and safety programs within the organization. This role is crucial in minimizing workplace hazards, reducing incidents, and ensuring that all employees are operating in a safe and hazard-free environment. The Health and Safety Manager will collaborate with various departments to promote best practices, conduct risk assessments, and manage investigations of any work-related incidents. A deep understanding of health and safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and train teams on safety practices are paramount for success in this position. Expertise in these areas is crucial to fostering a culture of safety and maintaining regulatory compliance across all operations.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
  • Provide training and education programs to employees about workplace safety standards.
  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents and incidents to determine causes and solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with management to set and review workplace safety goals and objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections, compliance audits, and training sessions.
  • Advise on and monitor the usage of safety equipment and personal protective gear.
  • Prepare and present safety reports to the senior management team.
  • Work with external agencies and contractors to ensure a consistent approach to workplace safety.
  • Facilitate emergency response exercises and emergency planning to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Monitor and update emergency evacuation plans and procedures as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in health and safety management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder collaboration.
  • Certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar health and safety qualifications preferred.
