POST: Head of Department of Business Studies at Safa Community School, Dubai

Currently, we are in search of a dynamic and passionate Head of Department of Business Studies (secondary school) to lead our highly accomplished secondary department.

The successful candidate would be expected to teach across the age and ability range, GCSE and A-Level.

This role is being advertised as part of our strategic growth to meet increasing student enrollment and programme demand.

General Professional Responsibilities

The professional duties of a teacher shall be deemed to include the following duties:

  • Teaching, including planning and preparing courses and lessons, setting and marking of work and assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment in line with the school’s expectations and policy.
  • Using data to inform classroom teaching, monitoring and tracking student progress and putting in place timely interventions.
  • Preparing students for public examinations, assessing students for the purposes of such examinations, recording and reporting such assessments and attending meetings connected with the conduct of public examinations.
  • Communicating and consulting with the parents of students, including the writing of reports.
  • Attendance at Parents’ Evenings and Open Evenings.
  • Working on shaping of departmental policy and practice, the introduction of curricular initiatives, the preparation and development of programmes of study and methods of teaching and assessment.
  • Participating in administrative and organisational tasks in order to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Keeping up to date with curriculum innovation, participating in arrangements for CPD, contributing to professional development of the department.
  • Taking responsibility for the monitoring and support of a beginning teacher taking his/her class, if appropriate.
  • Excellent leadership potential and strong management and communication skills are demonstrable through your present role.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Creating and delivering departmental improvement plans.
  • Experience in working with and analysing data.
  • The ability to communicate a clear vision for improving standards within the department;
  • A capacity for hard work and resilience; and a belief that this is at the core of success;
  • A creative thinker with the ability and determination to secure high-quality outcomes for all students;
  • An exceptional and innovative classroom practitioner;
  • Demonstrable ability to lead, inspire and motivate others;
  • Readiness for meeting the high expectations in Dubai with enthusiasm;

  • Familiarising themselves with the DSIB inspection framework and the expectations of outstanding teaching and learning in the UAE.
  • Being supportive of UAE initiatives and cultural expectations.

Candidate Profile

It Is a Requirement That The Successful Candidate

  • Will hold relevant qualifications.
  • Must have vast experience teaching in British Curriculum schools, teaching both IGCSE and A level.
  • Most importantly, they should be enthusiastic about the subject and be able to convey this to staff and students.
  • Have an understanding of assessment and examination requirements for KS4 and KS5.
  • Be an outstanding teacher and leader with the ability to demonstrate outstanding practice and progress of students.
  • Proven experience leading a team effectively.
  • Actively keeps up to date with the developments in their subject.
  • Has a willingness to develop as a professional, taking opportunities to train staff further within the department, or outside to progress in their careers.

The Application Process Is

  • All applications must be submitted on the TES/Schrole Portal. Only applications submitted through the Portal will be considered.
  • Only applications with experience teaching GCSEs and A-Levels will be considered.
  • Submit an up to date, full resume / CV.
  • Submit a covering letter of no more than two A4 pages.
  • Provide at least three referees’ names, telephone numbers (with international dialling codes), and email addresses. One must be a current employer.
  • The closing date for all applications is Tuesday, 17th February 2026 at 10h00 UAE time.
  • Applications will be assessed in order of receipt and interviews may occur at any stage after applications are received. We reserve the right to appoint before the closing date and therefore invite interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.
  • Once initial interviews are concluded, arrangements will be made individually with those candidates who will proceed to the second round of interviews.
  • A demonstration lesson will be required.

Upon request, feedback will only be provided to candidates who progress to the interview stages.
