Job Summary

As the Head of Africa, Private Side Solution Sales at Standard Chartered, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategic initiatives that drive the delivery of the banks Markets products across all private side activities in the Africa region. This senior leadership position demands a visionary leader who can integrate balance sheet management, client coverage, banking, capital markets, and transaction banking to create a cohesive approach to serving diverse corporate clients. You will work collaboratively with the public side corporate sales teams to ensure seamless cross-selling and maximize client engagement. This role offers you the opportunity to influence the growth trajectory of our African market presence while leading cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and client-centric financial solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Collaboration

  • Craft and communicate a forward-looking strategic vision for private side solution sales, fully aligned with Standard Chartered’ s overarching corporate objectives and regional dynamics.
  • Integrate financial market products with corporate client coverage, capital markets, and transaction banking to develop comprehensive, value-driven client solutions.
  • Build and nurture productive partnerships with client coverage teams to deepen market penetration and jointly pursue high-value opportunities.
  • Lead the orchestration of coordinated client engagement efforts, including collaborative pitches, presentations, and solution ideation workshops.
  • Establish and facilitate cross-functional forums ensuring constant dialogue and synergy between private side sales and supporting business units to optimize client outcomes.

Business Development and Growth

  • Drive consistent revenue growth by developing targeted sales strategies that effectively promote cross-selling and up-selling of financial products across the corporate client base.
  • Deliver against assigned full-year income targets, as outlined in the annual P3 document, ensuring rigorous pipeline management and deal origination.
  • Build and maintain trusted, long-lasting relationships with key corporate clients, understanding their unique needs and tailoring financial solutions accordingly.
  • Champion product innovation by collaborating with internal teams to conceive and refine client-centric offerings that differentiate the bank in competitive markets.
  • Develop and deliver compelling sales pitches and presentations that clearly articulate the benefits and strategic value of our financial products to prospective and existing clients.

In this role, you will be accountable for establishing the private side solutions sales team as the preferred partner for corporate clients throughout Africa. This includes setting clear objectives, motivating team members, and driving a customer-centric culture that prioritizes transparent communication and excellence in service delivery. You will play a significant role in influencing regional policies related to product offerings, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and mitigating risk through sound governance practices. By leveraging market trends and client feedback, you will guide continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the bank’s competitive positioning.

Collaboration is central to this role; you will work closely with multiple internal stakeholders, including risk management, legal, operations, and marketing teams to ensure solutions are not only innovative but operationally feasible and compliant. Moreover, by fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and high performance, you will support the professional development and growth of your team, encouraging diversity and inclusion as cornerstones of your leadership approach.

The role requires ongoing market analysis to identify emerging client needs and competitor activity, allowing the bank to anticipate shifts and adapt strategies proactively. You will be expected to cultivate strong networks across the African continent, representing Standard Chartered in industry forums, client events, and regulatory discussions. This external engagement will provide valuable insights and enhance the bank’s brand as a thought leader in private side financial solutions.

Additionally, your efforts will support the bank’s digital transformation agenda, working with technology teams to leverage data analytics, digital platforms, and automation to streamline sales processes and improve client experiences. This includes embedding sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into product development and client engagement strategies, reflecting the banks commitment to responsible banking.

Qualifications

  • Experience in product management or a similar role within the financial services industry, with a strong focus on client-facing solutions
  • Proven track record of working with diverse client segments, including financial services counterparties, sophisticated market participants, and SME/MNC corporate clients.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience covering Commercial Banking, Global Markets, Lending, and Securities Services.
  • Solid understanding of Client Lifecycle Management (CLM) principles and their application in a complex financial institution.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across all levels of an organization, including C-Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
