Job Description

  • Responsible for overseeing the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Bank’s financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies. The role manages the publishing of the Bank’s standalone and consolidated financial statements, including those of its subsidiaries, in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • The position ensures full adherence to IFRS and local regulatory frameworks, maintains a strong financial control environment in line with SOX/ICFR standards, and drives governance across all financial reporting and financial control activities.
  • Manage external audit for Mashreq Group, its subsidiaries including also selected overseas branches.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, foster collaboration across Finance, Risk, Treasury, and other functions, and act as a key point of contact for external auditors, and senior stakeholders for any matter relating to financial reporting, control and financial statements.
  • Contributes to strategic decision-making by providing transparent financial insights, highlighting risks and opportunities, and driving process improvements and automation initiatives to strengthen efficiency, accuracy, and control to ensure the Bank’s financial reporting and financial control framework continues to meet the highest standards of transparency, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Financial reporting and analysis:
  • Oversee the preparation of the consolidated financial statements for the bank and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with IFRS and local regulations.
  • Overseas submission of reports to regulatory bodies such as the UAE Central Bank, DFSA, and other financial authorities.
  • Ensure the banks financial records are accurate, complete, and comply with IFRS and local regulatory standards.
  • Analysis financial performance and provide actionable insights to senior management for decision making including GCFO.
  • Oversee group consolidation and complex accounting matters.
  • Drive accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting, ensuring clear communication of financial performance to leadership.
  • Manage External Audit :
  • Serve as the point of contact for external auditors during interim and annual audits for any financial statements related aspect
  • Partner with internal and external auditors, regulators, and tax authority to ensure smooth audit and compliance.
  • Financial control and governance:
  • Establish and maintain a strong financial control environment in line with ICFR framework.
  • Oversee general ledger integrity, reconciliation and chart of accounts governance
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and proactively assess changes in accounting standards
  • Oversee accounting policies, interpretations, and their consistent application across the bank
  • Provide insights to bank level committees regarding financial control matters.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
  • Ensure that all financial reports are prepared in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Ensure submissions to regulatory authorities, including any mandatory filings or disclosures.
  • Strategic process improvement:
  • Lead initiatives to improve financial systems, automation, and reporting capabilities
  • Identify inefficiencies in financial reporting processes and recommend improvements.
  • Implement automations, digital tools and process improvement to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strategic financial leadership.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise and guidance on new business initiatives, acquisition and strategic projects
  • Provide technical IFRS related guidance throughout the bank .
  • Collaborate with business units, treasury, tax and other teams to deliver integrated financial insights.
  • Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial risk, control and reporting matters.
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, including controllers, analysts, and accountants.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Education

  • Professional certification such as Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or ACCA is required.

Experience

  • Over 15 years of hands-on experience in financial reporting or auditing, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management
  • High standard of integrity , governance and attention to details.
  • Experience working with external auditors and managing audit deliverables.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and its application in financial reporting.
  • Expert knowledge of banking-specific accounting standards such as financial instruments (IFRS 9), lease accounting (IFRS 16), and consolidations (IFRS 10) etc .
  • Proficiency in financial reporting tools and core banking systems.
  • Strong understanding of banking products, treasury operations, and financial instruments.
