Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and professional Governess / Personal Carer / Personal Trainer SEN Qualified Working with UHNW / UHNWI Family to support the education, development, behaviour and overall well-being of two young children aged 4 and 2 within a fully staffed UHNW private household.

This is primarily a governess and child-development role rather than a traditional nanny position. The successful candidate will take an active role in the children’s education, development, behaviour, routines and overall progression, working closely with the parents, school/nursery, nannies and wider household team. We are particularly interested in candidates who have SEN training or substantial professional experience supporting children with additional learning, behavioural, sensory, attention or developmental needs.

The ideal candidate will be warm and nurturing but also confident, structured and consistent. She should be capable of setting appropriate boundaries, encouraging independence and managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively. The family travels regularly internationally, so flexibility and extensive travel experience are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education & Development

  • Take responsibility for supporting the children’s educational and developmental progress.
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate learning opportunities for both children.
  • Support the 4-year-old with early literacy, phonics, reading, handwriting, numeracy and school-readiness skills.
  • Reinforce learning from school through structured but enjoyable activities at home.
  • Introduce the 2-year-old to developmentally appropriate early learning through play, books, language, music, sensory activities and exploration.
  • Encourage curiosity, confidence, independence, concentration and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
  • Identify areas where either child may require additional support and develop appropriate strategies.
  • Select suitable books, educational resources, games and activities.
  • Monitor developmental and educational progress and communicate regularly with the parents.

SEN & Behavioural Support

  • Use an SEN-informed approach to support individual learning styles and developmental needs.
  • Experience with areas such as attention and concentration, sensory needs, emotional regulation, behavioural challenges and executive-function development is highly desirable.
  • Recognise triggers and patterns in behaviour and implement appropriate, consistent strategies.
  • Help the children develop emotional regulation, patience, resilience and age-appropriate coping skills.
  • Establish clear, calm and consistent boundaries.
  • Use positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate behaviour-management techniques.
  • Adapt educational activities to maintain engagement without creating unnecessary pressure.
  • Liaise with teachers, therapists or other professionals where required and implement recommended strategies consistently at home.
  • Maintain discretion and sensitivity regarding all aspects of the children’s development.

School & Nursery Support

  • Manage and oversee school/nursery preparation and routines.
  • Ensure uniforms, bags, homework, reading books and necessary materials are organised.
  • Liaise appropriately with teachers and school staff.
  • Keep parents informed of important school communications, progress or concerns.
  • Attend relevant school meetings or appointments when requested.
  • Support homework, reading and educational projects.
  • Help establish strong habits around learning, organisation and responsibility from an early age.

Routine, Manners & Independence

  • Establish and maintain consistent daily routines alongside the children’s nannies.
  • Encourage excellent manners, kindness, respect and age-appropriate social skills.
  • Teach independence, including dressing, tidying belongings, looking after possessions and completing age-appropriate tasks.
  • Support positive sibling relationships and appropriate conflict resolution.
  • Encourage good behaviour in restaurants, during travel, at activities and in social environments.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.

Activities & Enrichment

  • Research and organise high-quality extracurricular and enrichment opportunities appropriate to each child’s age and interests.
  • Plan educational outings, museum visits, cultural activities, sports, arts and other experiences.
  • Organise creative and stimulating activities during school holidays.
  • Arrange and supervise playdates where required.
  • Balance structured learning with active play, imaginative play and downtime.
  • Avoid excessive reliance on screens and actively engage the children in meaningful activities.

Travel

  • Travel extensively with the family internationally as required.
  • Maintain the children’s routines, education and behavioural expectations while travelling.
  • Prepare appropriate educational resources, activities and entertainment for journeys and holidays.
  • Work effectively alongside nannies and other household staff while travelling.
  • Be highly organised, adaptable and comfortable with changing schedules, different time zones and international environments.

WORKING WITHIN THE HOUSEHOLD

  • The household is fully staffed, and the Governess will work alongside nannies, housekeepers, drivers and other household staff.
  • The Governess is not expected to undertake general housekeeping or household errands. Her focus should remain on the children’s education, development, routines and well-being.
  • She must be comfortable working collaboratively while also taking ownership of the educational and developmental aspects of the children’s daily lives.
  • Clear communication between the Governess, parents, nannies and school is extremely important.
