Job Description

An Estimation Engineer plays a critical role in the engineering and construction sectors by accurately estimating the costs associated with projects. The primary function of this position is to prepare detailed cost estimates of materials, labor, and equipment required for projects based on the design documents, project plans, and specifications. Estimation Engineers must analyze key aspects of the project to forecast potential expenditures and budgets for future projects. They work closely with other departments such as procurement, engineering, and project management to ensure that cost estimations align with the overall project objectives. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial skills for this role, as the estimates generated can significantly influence project planning, execution, and profitability.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, plans, and project specifications to understand overall project scope.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, equipment, and labor required for the project.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
  • Conduct risk assessments to forecast potential cost overruns or financial risks.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to discuss estimates and budget considerations.
  • Revise and update estimates when project specifications change or evolve.
  • Track project costs throughout the project lifecycle and update estimations as necessary.
  • Review, analyze, and recommend cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality.
  • Prepare and present project cost reports to stakeholders and upper management.
  • Work closely with procurement teams to ensure material costs align with estimates.
  • Gather and manage a database of historical costs and data for future use.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards for estimating processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in an estimation role within the industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints effectively.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with teams and present findings.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and construction methodologies.
