Description

The Division of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) within the Kentucky Department of Public Health is committed to advancing the health and well-being of children, pregnant women, and families across the Commonwealth by supporting impactful, statewide initiatives that shape early-life health, strengthen families, and promote long-term wellness. This Epidemiologist role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across innovative maternal and child health programs, including the Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative, KyCompass, and other Maternal Health programs, contributing to meaningful, data-driven efforts that guide decision-making and enhance program effectiveness. In this role, you will play a vital part in transforming data into actionable insights, supporting key reporting efforts, and helping drive improvements that make a lasting difference for Kentucky’s families and communities.

This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as a result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Job Responsibilities Or Duties

  • Collects, describes, and analyzes data using basic epidemiologic methods, including descriptive analyses related to maternal and child health or public health issues.
  • Provides technical assistance on program monitoring, data collection, and evaluation, including the production of useful evaluation reports, needs assessment and recommendations.
  • Utilizes findings of analyses to improve, expand and maintain the program.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports such as annual reports, fact sheets, surveillance reports, white papers, grant reporting, and program output plans.
  • Organizes and maintains different data and surveillance systems, including providing technical assistance to users as needed.
  • Communicates and disseminates data to health professionals and agencies at the local, state and national levels.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Able to report to the office in Frankfort, KY 3 days per week.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative to anticipate needs and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: A bachelors degree in public health or environmental health or related field OR A bachelors degree and successful completion of at least two courses in epidemiology, public health, research methods, epidemiological research methods, population health, or disease investigation, or other related courses AND one course in data analysis, statistics, biostatistics, public health programming, epidemiological programming, health analytics, demography, or other related courses.
