We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated ELL Teaching Assistant to join our team for an immediate start. The successful candidate will support the teacher in creating a positive, engaging and well-organised learning environment, with a specific focus on students learning through English as an additional language. Working in close partnership with the ELL Teacher, you will help multilingual learners build the English proficiency they need to access the full curriculum with confidence, assisting with their academic and personal development, preparing language support materials, delivering targeted intervention and helping maintain effective day-to-day classroom operations. This position offers structured training and mentoring in language acquisition and inclusive teaching practice.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the teacher with planning and delivering classroom activities and lessons.
Provide individual and small-group support to students who need additional assistance.
Support multilingual learners in developing their English language proficiency across speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Lead targeted language interventions with individuals and small groups, planned in partnership with the EAL teacher.
Use scaffolding strategies, visuals and language support techniques to help students access the curriculum.
Assist with EAL assessments, progress monitoring and the preparation of language support resources.
Help prepare teaching materials, worksheets, displays and classroom resources.
Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, transitions and other school activities.
Encourage positive behaviour and support classroom management strategies.
Monitor students' progress and communicate observations to the teacher.
Assist students with assignments, reading, writing and other learning activities.
Support students with different learning needs and abilities.
Help maintain a safe, clean, organised and welcoming classroom environment.
Assist with administrative tasks, record keeping and preparation of classroom resources.
Communicate professionally with teachers, staff, students and parents when required.
Participate in school events, meetings, training and professional development activities.
Follow school policies, safeguarding procedures and health and safety requirements.
Skills Description
Diploma or bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience working with multilingual children or in an educational setting is an advantage.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy and a genuine interest in supporting students.
Ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Basic computer and administrative skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
Knowledge of classroom management and child safeguarding principles is desirable.
