Job Description

Are you a technically skilled and solutions-driven engineer with a passion for electrical design and innovation in special vehicles? We are seeking a knowledgeable professional to join our team in the exciting field of fire fighting truck and emergency vehicle engineering. You will play a key role in developing cutting-edge electrical systems and supporting the design, compliance, and delivery of technically advanced, life-saving vehicles.

Key Responsibilities – Electrical Design Engineering for Fire Fighting Trucks & Special Vehicles

  • Design and develop robust electrical and electronic systems tailored for fire fighting trucks, emergency vehicles, and specialised commercial vehicles, ensuring all solutions conform to the latest industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Create, review, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings for vehicle electrical and control systems, integrating safety, suppression, and communication technologies.
  • Support the integration of pumps, sirens, lighting, telemetry, diagnostics, and fire suppression controls with vehicle CAN bus architecture and existing chassis electrical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, hydraulic, and body engineering teams to optimise vehicle system performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Prepare technical submittals, documentation, and bespoke proposals compliant with firefighting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document electrical engineering issues during prototype build, testing, and production phases of the vehicle life cycle.

Essential Technical Knowledge – Automotive & Vehicle Electrical Systems

  • In-depth knowledge of automotive electrical engineering, including power distribution, control circuits, and integration of specialist fire fighting equipment.
  • Familiarity with applicable standards (BS, EN, ISO, UNECE, NFPA), vehicle safety regulations, and commercial vehicle homologation requirements.
  • Strong skills in interpreting technical documentation, component datasheets, and vehicle electrical architecture.
  • Proficient in using CAD software (such as solidworks, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar) and hands-on experience with design and simulation tools relevant to vehicle electrical systems.
  • Experience specifying wiring harnesses, connectors, fuses, relays, and control modules for harsh environments and emergency service applications.

Project Collaboration, Communication, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Effectively present technical and project information to internal teams, clients, and third-party suppliers, ensuring clarity of requirements and compliance throughout project delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with sales, production, procurement, and external vehicle OEMs to coordinate design details, build schedules, and quality checks.
  • Support site visits, technical training, and troubleshooting at client premises, representing the business in a professional and assured manner.
  • Maintain concise and accurate records of design changes, test results, and compliance documentation to support vehicle certification and aftercare.

Qualifications and Experience – Electrical Design for Fire Fighting Trucks & Vehicle Engineering

  • Degree or recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline strongly preferred.
  • Minimum3 years’ experience in electrical design, ideally within the automotive, commercial vehicle, or emergency vehicle sectors.
  • Sound understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, component selection, and system integration methods relevant to fire fighting and rescue vehicles.
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD and digital design platforms as well as MS Office and project management tools.

If you are ready to help create the next generation of fire fighting trucks and emergency vehicles, bringing together technical excellence, safety, and innovation, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join a forward-thinking company where your engineering expertise makes a real-world impact.
