Role Overview
As an Economist at Standard Chartered, AME (Asia, Middle East), you will play a pivotal role in delivering insightful economic analysis and forecasting that supports our strategic decision-making processes. This is a full-time office-based position located in our dynamic Dubai office. With a focus on the economic landscape of the AME region, you will provide nuanced perspectives on macroeconomic trends, policy shifts, and market developments that affect our clients and internal stakeholders.
Your expertise will inform business strategy, risk management, and customer engagement initiatives, ensuring that we remain ahead of market trends while fostering sustainable growth. The role demands a strong action-oriented mindset, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and collaboration across multiple teams and geographies. You will be a key contributor to thought leadership that underscores Standard Chartered’ s influence in international finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive economic research and analysis focused on the AME region, synthesizing data from diverse sources to identify emerging trends and risks.
- Develop economic forecasts and models that support the bank’s strategic initiatives and operational planning.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership, risk teams, and client-facing personnel to translate economic insights into actionable business decisions and client communications.
- Stay abreast of global macroeconomic developments and policy changes, assessing their implications for the bank and its clients.
- Produce clear, concise reports, presentations, and briefing materials tailored to different audiences, ranging from technical experts to non-specialists.
- Contribute to the development of training and mentoring programs to build economic literacy within the bank.
- Manage complex, ambiguous situations with sound judgment and demonstrate courage in decision-making under uncertainty.
Role Specific Technical Competencies
We are looking for a proactive and intellectually curious Economist who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates will possess
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply strategic thinking to complex economic issues within the diverse AME region.
- Econometrics and modelling skills
- Experience working with frontier and emerging market data sets
- Solid numerical and analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex economic data
- Good understanding of financial products, macroeconomic indicators and policy analysis
- Experience in investment research, central banks, thin tanks, financial institutions or government related roles
- Strong writing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to influence and engage stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment
- Proficiency in English is essential, knowledge of Arabic or French is advantageous
- Master’s degree in economics or closely related subject and experience in Investment Research, including emerging markets.
