Job Description

An ECHO Technician, also known as an Echocardiography Technician, is a vital member of the medical team, specializing in using ultrasound equipment to capture images of a patient's heart. These images help cardiologists to diagnose and determine the treatment for heart-related conditions. As an ECHO Technician, you will work closely with patients, ensuring their comfort and safety during procedures while producing high-quality echocardiograms for accurate analysis. The role demands precision, technical proficiency, empathy, and excellent communication skills. Staying current with the latest echocardiography technologies and best practices is also a key aspect of this profession, contributing significantly to patient care and outcomes.


Responsibilities

  • Operate echocardiography equipment to capture images of a patient's heart accurately.
  • Assess the quality of images and make adjustments for clarity as necessary.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process clearly to ease anxiety.
  • Review patient history and ensure the presence of relevant records and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with a medical team, sharing findings and contributing to patient care plans.
  • Maintain equipment by performing regular cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in echocardiography technology and techniques for optimal results.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed to protect patients from unnecessary exposure to ultrasound waves.
  • Document findings meticulously, preparing reports for cardiologists to review.
  • Educate patients and families about heart health and the importance of diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide input on improving operational processes and patient experiences in the echocardiography lab.
  • Assist in scheduling and inventory management, ensuring the echocardiography unit runs efficiently.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in cardiovascular technology or a related medical imaging field.
  • Certification by a recognized body such as ARDMS or CCI in echocardiography.
  • Proven experience in an echocardiography or cardiovascular lab setting.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and related medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot advanced echocardiography and ultrasound equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and ethical medical standards.
