Job Description

An ECHO Technician is a highly skilled healthcare professional responsible for conducting echocardiograms, which are non-invasive tests that use sound waves to create visual images of the heart. This role is critical in helping physicians diagnose cardiovascular conditions, assess heart function, and guide treatment plans. ECHO Technicians must be proficient in operating specialized ultrasound equipment and interpreting the images to ensure accurate test results. They work closely with patients, providing explanations of procedures and ensuring comfort during examinations. Careful attention to detail, knowledge of human anatomy, and technical expertise are essential skills for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiograms on patients to gather diagnostic images and assessment data.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the test.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists and healthcare teams to interpret echocardiograms.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of echocardiography results and patient information.
  • Ensure all equipment is sterilized and ready for use, adhering to health standards.
  • Explain procedures to patients, answering questions and addressing concerns they may have.
  • Schedule echocardiography appointments and manage patient flow efficiently.
  • Calibrate and adjust ultrasound equipment according to established protocols and standards.
  • Assess images for clarity and quality, adjusting techniques as necessary to improve results.
  • Assist in developing patient care plans based on echocardiogram findings and recommendations.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to stay updated on the latest echocardiography techniques.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in cardiovascular technology or a related field is required.
  • Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience as an ECHO Technician or similar role is necessary.
  • Proficiency in using echocardiography equipment and medical imaging software is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to assess image quality accurately.
  • Ability to work flexibly to accommodate emergency or unscheduled tests when required.
