Job Purpose

The Electrical Draftsman is responsible for preparing electrical shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings for MEP construction projects. This role ensures that electrical system layouts are accurately represented and meet project requirements. The Electrical Draftsman will collaborate with engineers to create technical drawings using AutoCAD and Revit to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems.

Job Responsibilities

Drafting & Documentation

• Prepare detailed electrical drawings for power distribution, lighting layouts, ELV systems, and wiring schematics using AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting tools.
• Update drawings based on design revisions and ensure all changes are documented accurately.
• Create layout drawings for electrical panels, switchgear, conduits, and wiring based on the electrical engineers designs.
• Ensure all electrical drawings are compliant with relevant standards, local codes (e.g., ADDC, ADM, Civil Defense), and project specifications.
  
  

Coordination & Collaboration

• Work closely with Electrical Engineers to understand and interpret design requirements and instructions.
• Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings after the electrical system installation is complete.
• Collaborate with other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, structural) to resolve coordination issues and ensure proper integration of electrical systems.
  
  

Quality Control & Accuracy

• Ensure accuracy and consistency in all drafting work and prevent errors that may affect the construction or installation phases.
• Review and verify all drawings and technical documents for compliance with project specifications.
• Conduct clash detection for electrical systems within the broader MEP design framework.
  
  

Technical Support

• Assist the electrical team with any additional technical documentation or presentations related to electrical design.
• Support Electrical Engineers by preparing diagrams and layouts that help visualize the design intent and guide installation teams.
  
  

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit (up to LOD 400).
• Strong English language skills (both written and verbal).
  
  

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in electrical drafting for MEP construction projects.
• Experience in shop drawing preparation, coordination drawings, and as-built drawing revisions.
• UAE experience is required.
  
  

Knowledge & Skills

• Electrical Drafting – Proficient in creating detailed electrical layouts, circuit diagrams, panel schedules, and wiring diagrams.
• AutoCAD & Revit MEP – Expertise in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and Revit MEP for 3D modeling and building systems.
• Power Distribution Systems – Understanding of power distribution, switchgear, lighting systems, and grounding layouts.
• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) – Ability to create and update SLDs, panel schedules, and other electrical documentation.
• Lighting Design & Control – Drafting lighting layouts, emergency lighting systems, and control wiring.
• ELV Systems – Familiarity with Extra Low Voltage systems such as CCTV, fire alarms, access control, and BMS systems.
• MEP Coordination – Ability to integrate electrical drawings with mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Specification & BOM Preparation – Preparing technical specifications, material lists, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Compliance & Standards – Ensuring compliance with local and international standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, BS).
• Revisions & Updates – Maintaining up-to-date drawings and ensuring proper version control.
