POSITION SUMMARY:


Directs the management and operational delivery of the risk management program ensuring integration into the organisational structure. Ensures implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the effectiveness of the risk management program within American Hospital Dubai and its clinics by providing leadership and professional advicesupporting organisational learning and ensuring American Hospital Dubai and its clinics are meeting the regulatory and accreditation obligations. Ensures clinical audits program is scheduled and takes place and oversees the compliments and complaints function.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develops, implements, and monitors the hospital-wide risk management program taking a proactive approach to help minimize and mitigate risks.
  • Develops robust mechanisms and performance management to ensure that patient safety incidents including near misses are reported and managed appropriately in line with AHD policies ensuringinternal and externaldeadlines are met and actions implemented.
  • Develops and fosters internal l risk identification mechanisms including, but not limited to incident reports,medical record reviews,clinical audits, patientcomplaints, claims and risk assessments.
  • Ensures a strong overviewof the progress of incidentinvestigations and ensuresthe Chief Quality Officer is informed of any issues or risks.
  • Leads the process for reporting and updating information relating to patientsafety incidents and near misses.
  • Liaises with Legal Counsel ensuringaccurate and timelyinformation is provided.
  • Directs claims handling and defence preparation activities of the defence counsel.
  • Oversees the collection, analysisand presentation of quantitative and qualitative risk management data (Incidents, complaints, claims) to measure the effects of change and monitor continuous improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with localrules and regulations concerning patient care, incident reporting, investigation activities, lawsuits and appeals.
  • Participates in management reviewsof insurance coverageand risk financing activities.
  • Facilitates proactiverisk reduction activities using such tools as FailureMode Effect Analysis and Hazard Vulnerability Analysis.
  • Ensures an all-year-round clinical audit programis in place.
  • Monitors the results of the clinicalaudits and ensuresa plan is put in place to address the findings.
  • Ensures that compliments and complaints are handled daily.
  • Analyzes the trending problematic areas and ensuresa plan is put in place to address them.
  • Directs and conducts educational sessions on risk management for medical staff and employees.


QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:


  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent professional qualification (current licensepreferred)
  • Masters Degree in Risk Management or related healthcare field
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum seven (7) years of clinical experience in an acutecare setting in an international hospital
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in healthcare risk management
  • Knowledge of system processanalysis, quality/process improvement techniques, design, and integration, at a level of complexity associated with integrating processes across multiple departments of the organization
  • Knowledge of principles, methods,procedures and currenttrends in health information data management
  • Knowledge of accreditation programs and surveys
  • Knowledge of developing standards, policies and procedures
  • Skills in influencing at a strategic level
  • Skills in managinglarge, complex projectsand initiatives
  • Ability to solve problem,evaluate, plan, and direct processimprovement projects for all clinical departments
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative solutionsto achieve organisation objectives within clinical improvement setting
  • Ability to engage with clinicians
