Focus: The Director of Purchasing is responsible for overseeing the procurement processes of goods and services needed by the business and is critical to improving procurement systems, optimizing budgets, and managing risks. This position will also play an important role in improving supplier relationships and quality control, leading to better products and services that meet customer needs.
Director of Purchasing Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the organizations goals to optimize cost savings and operational efficiency.
Identify, evaluate and negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure favorable terms and maintain a very dynamic vendor management system.
Lead and mentor the procurement team, setting objectives and strategies to achieve departmental goals and maximize the potential of the team members.
Ensure all procurement activities comply with relevant regulations and internal policies, managing risks associated with supplier performance and contract obligations.
Work closely with other departments to align procurement strategies with overall business objectives.
Conduct market research to identify trends, assess pricing, and find cost saving opportunities.
Director of Purchasing Requirements:
Bachelors Degree* in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Business; Masters Degree* or MBA preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant, progressive experience in chemical procurement or strategic sourcing; 15+ years experience preferred.
Minimum of 5 years direct leadership experience; Experience leading global teams across multiple time zones preferred.
Direct experience in coordinating, managing, or overseeing the sourcing of hydrocarbon feedstocks or similar bulk commodity chemicals.
Strong financial acumen and commercial aptitude related to cost drivers, contracts, and market economics.
Proven negotiation skills with track record of securing favorable terms.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills; Ability to guide teams and foster collaboration while navigating dynamic market challenges.
Demonstrated success in driving margin improvements, supplier performance, and managing change.
Comfortable in making decisions in ambiguous situations after careful review of the available alternatives.
Impeccable ethics in dealing with conflict of interest or compliance situations.
