The Design Engineer is responsible for managing and executing the technical and design requirements associated with scaffolding works. The role ensures that all scaffold designs, calculations, drawings, modifications, and related technical documentation are prepared accurately and in accordance with applicable British Standards, company procedures, client requirements, and project specifications.
The position also provides technical support to management, site teams, clients, and commercial functions throughout the tendering, planning, execution, and completion of scaffolding projects.
Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility for all technical and design aspects of scaffolding works and ensure compliance with applicable standards, company procedures, and client requirements.
Carry out the design requirements for scaffolding projects, including preparation of design calculations and technical drawings.
Ensure that scaffolding is designed and erected in accordance with approved company standards and design requirements.
Review and check scaffold designs following modifications or alterations and ensure that the modified scaffold remains structurally safe and compliant with applicable British Standards.
Coordinate with the Senior Technical Design Engineer and other technical personnel to deliver design and engineering requirements effectively.
Liaise with clients regarding design, engineering, and technical requirements to ensure that deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
Liaise with Site Managers, Site In-Charges, and Site Supervisors regarding scaffold design and technical requirements.
Provide technical support to site teams and ensure that approved design requirements are effectively implemented at site.
Assist the General Manager in preparing technical and commercial requirements for tender bids.
Prepare quotations and quantity surveys for clients scaffolding requirements in coordination with the Quantity Surveyor.
Assist in the preparation and discussion of variation works with clients for ongoing contracts.
Assist in preparing project schedules and monitor progress to support effective project implementation.
Coordinate with the Quantity Surveyor in preparing quantity surveys, quotations, and other commercial documentation related to scaffolding works.
Prepare Method Statements and Job Safety Analysis (JSA), where required.
Prepare pre-qualification documents and technical submissions required by prospective and existing clients.
Ensure that all technical documentation is properly prepared, maintained, and updated.
Inform the Quality Management Representative (QM) of any changes or amendments required to the applicable Management Control Procedure (MCP).
Carry out duties and responsibilities assigned by the Regional General Manager (RGM) and General Manager (GM).
Ensure compliance with company directives, quality requirements, technical procedures, and applicable standards.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Bachelors or Diploma in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Relevant training in scaffolding design and engineering is preferred.
Proficiency in CAD/CAAD software and technical drawing applications.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in engineering design and technical drawing.
Experience in scaffolding design and engineering is highly preferred.
Experience working with construction, scaffolding, or related industrial projects.
Experience preparing technical calculations, drawings, method statements, and technical submissions.
