Job Purpose

The Engineering Technical Services (ETS) department ensures optimal performance for one of the worlds most advanced aircraft fleets. We focus on fleet technical management, airworthiness, and technical support to uphold safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and passenger comfort.

Our skilled Engineers work closely with manufacturers and vendors to advance aircraft technologies. ETS includes Fleet Technical Management, GCAA/EASA Design Organisation, Maintenance Programmes & Configuration, and Technical Publications. We drive innovation and maintain top industry standards to ensure peak operational excellence.

As a Design Engineer you will be responsible to prepare, check, approve design and substantiation data for modifications and repairs on large aeroplanes in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements, Emirates Design Organisation Handbook, and related Procedures.

In This Role You Will:

  • Perform design engineering activities within the terms of Emirates Design Organisation approval, as specified in the approval certificate and Design Organisation Handbook. Manage classification of changes to type certificate and repairs designed by the organisation. Perform compliance inspections and witness certification tests, as required.
  • Provide on-site support during the implementation of modifications/repairs. Develop compliance checklist and update as required. Provide support and expertise to other Technical Services Engineers working on minor design changes. Provide necessary support to the Office of Airworthiness for; preparation of certification programmes, update to Design Organisation Handbook and related procedures, design data archive, design organisation contactor/subcontractor monitoring program, regulatory audits, addressing any non-compliance, quality, or compliance deficiencies.
  • Work closely with outside vendors, MROs, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders within the company, to create engineering solutions that exceeds expectations.

Specific To Structures:

  • Review / approve change requests and develop design solutions for modifications and repairs to aircraft metallic and composite structures.
  • Conduct Fatigue & damage tolerance assessment and approve design & compliance documents that are necessary to demonstrate compliance with the applicable type certification basis, Operational Suitability Data (OSD), as well as environmental protection requirements, other specifications, and standards, such as Compliance statements / Engineering drawings / Weight & Balance analysis / Test plans and reports / Compliance inspection plans / Equipment qualifications / Engineering accomplishment documentation and instructions for continued airworthiness including modification bulletins, aircraft and component ICA supplements and Operational Suitability Data (OSD) supplements.
  • Be authorised and work as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) for Structures.

Specific To Cabin Interiors:

  • Review / approve change requests and conduct system & cabin safety assessment of proposed changes, develop design solutions for modifications to aircraft cabin interiors such as, introducing new LOPA, associated changes to Passenger Service Units (PSU) and Emergency Equipment, installation of galleys, monuments, lavatories, and class dividers to meet operational requirements.
  • Develop / approve design and compliance documents that are necessary to demonstrate compliance with the applicable type certification basis, Operational Suitability Data (OSD), as well as environmental protection requirements, other specifications, and standards, such as Compliance statements / Engineering drawings / Weight & Balance analysis / Functional Hazard Assessment, System Safety Assessment / Test plans and reports / Compliance inspection plans / Equipment qualifications / Engineering accomplishment documentation and instructions for continued airworthiness including modification bulletins, aircraft and component ICA supplements and Operational Suitability Data (OSD) supplements.
  • Be authorised and work as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) for Cabin Interiors.
  • Knowledge or training on Cabin Safety (fireworthiness, crashworthiness, evacuation, etc.) and System Safety Assessment.

Specific To Electrical And Avionics Systems:

  • Review / approve change requests and develop design solutions for modifications and repairs to aircraft electrical and avionics systems.
  • Develop / approve design and compliance documents that are necessary to demonstrate compliance with the applicable type certification basis, Operational Suitability Data (OSD), as well as environmental protection requirements, other specifications, and standards, such as Compliance statements / Schematic and Wiring Diagrams / Harness / Wire routing installation drawings, and harness build up diagrams / Electrical load analysis (ELA) supplements / Functional Hazard Assessment, System Safety Assessment, EWIS Assessment / Test plans and reports. Compliance inspection plans / Equipment qualifications / Engineering accomplishment documentation and instructions for continued airworthiness including modification bulletins, aircraft and component ICA supplements and Operational Suitability Data (OSD) supplements.
  • Be authorised and work as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) for Electrical & Avionics.

Specific To Airworthiness Engineer:

  • Supports Chief of Airworthiness Function for the following subjects.
  • All design activities performed within the terms of Emirates EASA and GCAA Design Organisation approvals, as specified in the terms of approval and Design Organisation Handbook. Effective administration and currency of the Design Organisation Handbook, associated procedures, design data archive and training records supporting ongoing maintenance of Design Organisation Approvals.
  • Matters of airworthiness associated with design activities, ensuring compliance with the applicable certification basis and the accuracy of classification decisions for changes and repairs. Liaising with regulatory authorities for interpretation of airworthiness and certification matters and ensure regular reporting of design activities performed by the Design Organisation. Monitoring new regulations and guidance materials issued by regulatory authorities, determining actions required and dissemination to Design Organisation personnel, where appropriate.
  • Co-ordinating the preparation of the certification programme and its continuous review to ensure the verification of compliance demonstration activity, and co-ordination of all tasks related to the certification process. Cooperation with regulatory authorities in proposing the type certification basis, OSD certification basis, and environmental protection requirements. Coordinating the Design Organisation contractor/subcontractor monitoring program by ensuring initial and ongoing surveillance audits are performed and related interface agreements are in place. Attending internal and external regulatory audits, support the investigation of any non-compliance, ensuring prompt corrective actions for any safety, quality or compliance deficiencies and monitor the effectiveness of the corrective action plans.
  • Follow-up the adequacy and competence of design organisation personnel appropriate to the scope of approval. Support developing and implementing effective manpower plans, training programmes and competency assessments framework. Be authorised and work as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) within their specialist field.

Qualification

To be considered for the role you must meet the below requirements:

  • Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Aeronautical / Mechanical / Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Engineering: in aerospace industry, of which at least 5 years in an EASA Part 21 or GCAA CAR 21 Design Organisation, preferably holding Major change/STC approval.
  • Experience on Emirates fleet types is preferred.
  • Experience as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) is preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of EASA Part 21J and GCAA CAR 21 regulatory requirements, including CS-25, CS-26, (E)TSO, and CFR Part 25.
  • Ability to analyse and synthesise technical information for implementation in cost effective ways.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex tasks and decision making in a fast-paced environment.

Specific To Electrical And Avionics Systems:

  • Degree in Aeronautical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge or training on Fundamental Avionics, RTCA DO-160, RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254 and System Safety Assessment.

Specific To Airworthiness Engineer:

  • Previous experience as a DOA post-holder or deputy is desirable.
