Job Description

A Database Administrator (DBA) is a highly-skilled professional responsible for managing, backing up, and ensuring the security of databases. As a DBA, you will oversee the installation, configuration, upgrading, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and security of databases. DBAs play a crucial role in the efficient management of an organization’s data systems to ensure they are available, reliable, and performing optimally. You will work closely with a team of IT professionals to identify and resolve any issues with database systems and to ensure the security and integrity of data within the database. Strong analytical skills will be essential, as is the ability to work with complex software and hardware to deliver effective solutions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with technology, problem-solving, and team collaboration in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities

  • Install and configure new database servers and related applications as needed.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • Ensure all database systems meet business and performance requirements efficiently.
  • Design and implement database security protocols to safeguard against unauthorized access.
  • Implement and manage database availability and disaster recovery strategies effectively.
  • Develop, manage, and test database backup and recovery plans regularly.
  • Collaborate with development teams to tune and design database queries for optimization.
  • Conduct regular audits to monitor and ensure database compliance with organizational policies.
  • Manage database access and implement user controls and permissions accurately.
  • Assist in the design of database reports, integrating data from various sources.
  • Provide database support by troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest database technologies and develop new strategies for optimizing database performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven work experience as a Database Administrator or similar role for at least three years.
  • In-depth understanding of database architecture, software, and technologies, including SQL and non-SQL.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization (PTO) techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail are essential.
  • Familiarity with database security management and compliance standards practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with IT teams.
