Job Description

The role of a Data Center Technician is critical in maintaining the seamless operation of data centers. These professionals are responsible for the hardware-based components of data storage facilities operated by cloud service providers and IT organizations. Their tasks include installation, maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting physical servers and networking equipment. A Data Center Technician must be meticulous, methodical, and capable of working in climates often dominated by complex technical equipment. They should possess the ability to craft innovative solutions to initiate improvements and prevent the potential for downtime. The technician must have pragmatic understanding of hardware configurations, power management, environmental health, and safety practices, along with the ability to schema audits and logs. As technology continuously advances, flexibility in learning and applying new skills is crucial.


Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot all data center hardware and network infrastructure.
  • Ensure all network security protocols and procedures are strictly followed and implemented.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams for hardware-related issues.
  • Monitor, assess, and manage data center environmental controls and evaluate impact.
  • Conduct regular audits of data center logs and electronic inventory systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance data center efficiency and capability.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations within data centers.
  • Execute scheduled equipment upgrades and maintain project timelines and deliverables.
  • Facilitate the cross-functional coordination of hardware level operations with other departments.
  • Evaluate data center capacity and suggest optimizations and future scaling options.
  • Supervise the overall functionality and reliability of mechanical systems within the premises.
  • Prepare detailed reports of data center operations to senior management teams regularly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with large-scale data center operations.
  • Proficiency in data center best practices, hardware maintenance, and network repairs.
  • Familiarity with data center monitoring tools and advanced industry testing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical issues resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for technical advice delivery.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts and respond to emergency situations or outages promptly.
