About PlayCV
PlayCV is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Castro Valley students by providing high-quality afterschool programs rooted in joyful play, hands-on learning, and whole-child development.
We partner with nine elementary schools and two middle schools in the Castro Valley Unified School District to deliver meaningful enrichment experiences that include arts, science, music, STEM, recreation, social-emotional learning, and academic support.
Our programs support students in building confidence, exploring creativity, strengthening social skills, and forming meaningful relationships. We create safe, inclusive spaces where students feel welcomed, valued, and connected.

Position Summary
The Curriculum & Program Designer will develop activities that correspond to PlayCV enrichment themes and student interests.
The Curriculum & Program Designer will collaborate with team members to create after school and summer camp curriculum that deliver exciting, inclusive, and fun educational opportunities for students. Under the direct supervision of the Curriculum Manager, the Curriculum & Program Designer develops curriculum for PlayCVs students.
The majority of the work in this role will be to research activities, curate curriculum, create slide decks, produce sample projects, order & prepare supplies, and collaborate with team members in the PlayCV office. Other duties include, but are not limited to: attend training and meetings, assist with training and meetings. This role also supports program quality through site visits, feedback collection, and ongoing curriculum refinement.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Student Experience
- Design, develop, and continuously improve PlayCV curriculum to ensure engaging, age-appropriate, and skill-building programming aligned with organizational goals.
- Create structured lesson plans, activities, and enrichment materials that support student development and positive outcomes.
- Evaluate program effectiveness through feedback, observation, and data, and implement improvements as needed.
- Ensure curriculum reflects PlayCV’s mission, values, and quality standards across all sites.
- Support adaptation of curriculum to meet diverse student needs, including varying age groups, abilities, and learning styles.
Safety & Supervision
- Integrate safety protocols and behavior management strategies into all curriculum materials and program designs.
- Ensure activities are developmentally appropriate and structured to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
- Collaborate with leadership to address any programmatic risks or safety concerns identified through curriculum or site feedback.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work closely with Team Captains and site staff to align curriculum with daily program implementation.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and cross-functional initiatives to enhance program quality.
Operations & Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize curriculum documentation, including lesson plans, resources, and materials.
- Complete assigned administrative tasks, reports, and project deliverables in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 months of experience in curriculum development and project management
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with importance on follow up and accountability
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and with a team
- Ability to adapt to evolving needs and manage unforeseen challenges with professionalism
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and engage in regular computer use
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds
- Experience in educational settings is preferred
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple projects at once. They have experience developing curriculum or structured activities and can create clear lesson plans, materials, and supporting resources. They are comfortable working independently on tasks such as research, content creation, and preparation, while also collaborating with team members to align on program needs.
This candidate communicates clearly, follows through on assignments, and can adapt to changing priorities. They are detail-oriented and able to maintain consistency across materials and documentation. They are open to feedback and able to make updates based on input from site teams and leadership.
They have a basic understanding of working with youth and can design activities that are age-appropriate, inclusive, and safe. Experience in educational or afterschool settings is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to view a computer screen for extended periods of time
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating standard office equipment (computer, phone, printer)
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching to access office materials or equipment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds (e.g., materials, supplies)
- Ability to sit for extended periods throughout the workday
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via virtual platforms
- Ability to attend occasional off-site meetings, site visits, or PlayCV training as needed
Conditions of Employment
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOJ/FBI Live Scan clearance
- Proof of negative TB test within required timeframe
- Ability to attend required PlayCV trainings and meetings
- Ability to work assigned schedule and program calendar
Benefits
PlayCV offers a competitive total compensation package for full-time exempt employees. In addition to the base salary of $70,304 annually, this position is eligible for employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance depending on plan elections and dependent coverage. The role also includes accrued vacation based on PlayCV’s exempt salaried vacation accrual schedule of 0.0385 hours per hour worked, which equates to approximately 80 hours, or 10 days, per year.
Additional benefits include accrued paid sick leave, paid holidays, 401(k) retirement plan eligibility, professional development and tuition reimbursement opportunities subject to policy eligibility, cell phone reimbursement where applicable, and employee program discounts where available. The estimated total compensation range, inclusive of salary, employer-paid medical, dental, and vision benefits, and annual vacation accrual value, is approximately $81,511 to $85,011 annually, depending on benefit elections. Benefits eligibility, accruals, and employer contribution amounts are governed by PlayCV plan documents and policies and may be modified in accordance with organizational needs and applicable law.
