Job Description

The CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) Technician plays a critical role in the medical field, ensuring the safety and reliability of instruments and equipment used in surgeries and medical procedures. This position focuses on the decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies. As a CSSD Technician, you will work closely with the surgical team in a hospital or clinical environment, maintaining the quality and sterility of all sterilization processes. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow strict protocols will be essential in preventing infections and ensuring patient safety. The role requires specific knowledge of sterilization techniques and the operation of autoclaves and other decontamination equipment.


Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment using approved sterilization techniques.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and washer disinfectors.
  • Assemble and inspect surgical instruments for completeness and functionality.
  • Package, label, and date sterilized instruments for storage or distribution.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
  • Conduct routine inventory checks to ensure adequate stock levels of sterile supplies.
  • Follow and enforce infection control procedures to prevent contamination or infection.
  • Collaborate with surgical team members to meet departmental sterilization needs.
  • Identify and report any damaged or malfunctioning instruments immediately.
  • Conduct routine checks and quality assurance measures on sterilization processes.
  • Assist in training new staff in sterilization practices and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the sterilization process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with additional relevant certifications preferred.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) qualification is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of sterilization practices, infection control, and related safety guidelines.
  • Proficiency in operating sterilization equipment and familiarity with surgical instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict sterilization protocols.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills for team collaboration and reporting.
