Job Description

The role of a CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) Technician is pivotal in ensuring the hospital environment remains safe and sterile, thus preventing infections and complications in patients. The CSSD Technician is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, and distributing surgical instruments and equipment necessary for medical procedures. They must have a keen eye for detail and adhere to strict protocols to ensure all equipment is handled correctly. Located usually in hospitals, these technicians play an essential role behind the scenes to support patient care and surgical success. They work closely with healthcare professionals, maintaining high standards of quality and regulatory compliance in all their tasks.


Responsibilities

  • Clean and decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment using appropriate solutions and techniques.
  • Inspect and assemble instrument trays and sets according to hospital standards and protocols.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment to ensure safe use in medical and surgical procedures.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of sterile supplies and restock as necessary.
  • Package and label surgical instruments and equipment accurately for sterilization and storage.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Track and document sterilization processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team to coordinate supply needs and availability.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and hospital safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality control and improvement processes to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new CSSD staff members on proper protocols and procedures.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to maintenance promptly to avoid service delays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is necessary for this position.
  • Certification in Central Sterile Processing or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting will be advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all instruments are properly cleaned and sterile.
  • Ability to operate sterilization equipment and follow precise procedures consistently.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with hospital staff and team members.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all interactions and tasks.
