Job Description

A Credit Controller is a crucial member of the finance department, primarily responsible for managing the company's credit accounts and ensuring timely payments by clients. This role is critical to maintaining healthy cash flow and minimizing the risk of bad debts. The Credit Controller will monitor and control credit extended to the company's clients, identify and mitigate payment issues, and work closely with other departments to streamline financial operations. This involves a mix of relationship management, financial analysis, and negotiation skills to ensure sustained financial stability. The ideal candidate has a strong background in finance or accounting, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, and a keen analytical mind able to assess and manage risk effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the credit control process to ensure consistent cash flow.
  • Assess and evaluate new credit requests from clients and vendors effectively.
  • Develop and enforce credit policies that align with organizational objectives.
  • Negotiate with clients to facilitate timely payments while preserving relationships.
  • Monitor debtor balances and generate regular reports for senior management review.
  • Implement effective risk management strategies to minimize the occurrence of bad debts.
  • Coordinate with the sales department to resolve customer complaints and payment issues.
  • Conduct regular credit meetings and update the team on relevant credit policies.
  • Utilize financial software to track credit transactions and manage accounts efficiently.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and yearly forecasts and credit reports.
  • Liaise with legal departments for debt recovery processes when necessary.
  • Provide training for junior staff on effective credit control practices and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in credit control or finance.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret financial data and forecast financial positions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining client relationships and negotiating terms.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as SAP, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • High attention to detail required to maintain accurate and precise financial records.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in handling high volumes of transactions and managing multiple client accounts.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation regarding credit and debt collection procedures.
