Job Description

The Crane Technician is a vital role within the construction and engineering industries, focusing on inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing cranes. These professionals ensure that cranes are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. They are responsible for diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and carrying out the necessary repairs. A Crane Technician must be detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. They will often work in tandem with crane operators and site managers to ensure smooth project operations. Comprehensive knowledge of crane mechanics and electronics, along with expertise in reading technical diagrams and manuals, is essential for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Inspect cranes regularly to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to prevent operational downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks like lubricating crane parts and replacing worn-out components.
  • Collaborate with crane operators to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities for future reference.
  • Install new cranes and perform setup activities, ensuring all parts function correctly.
  • Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals for proper equipment servicing.
  • Assist in training new technicians and operators on equipment usage and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to procure necessary parts and equipment efficiently.
  • Respond to emergency service calls to minimize disruption in crane operations on site.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition and properly stored.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute suggestions to improve operational safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification in mechanics preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in crane maintenance or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of crane systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams and schematics accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with operators, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Ability to climb heights and lift heavy parts as part of daily duties safely.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
