Job Description

The Consultant in Neonatology 20F26 is a specialized medical role focused on the care of newborn infants, particularly the ill or premature newborn. The consultant will provide expert medical care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), supervise junior staff, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. They must be highly skilled in neonatal intensive care procedures, diagnostics, and treatments, delivering excellence in care to vulnerable infants. In addition to clinical duties, the consultant will engage in research to advance neonatal healthcare practices. This role demands strong leadership, communication skills, and a compassionate approach to support families during stressful times.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to neonates in the NICU to support their development.
  • Supervise and educate junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in neonatal care.
  • Develop, implement, and review treatment plans for neonates in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Perform and interpret specialized diagnostic procedures to assess and treat neonates effectively.
  • Communicate with and support families, providing updates on the infant's care and prognosis.
  • Participate in ongoing research projects aimed at improving neonatal health outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulations concerning neonatal care.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians and other specialists to ensure cohesive care plans for newborns.
  • Lead and attend departmental meetings to share knowledge and discuss patient progress.
  • Prepare detailed medical reports and maintain accurate records of neonatal patients.
  • Provide emergency interventions for critical conditions in newborn infants as required.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper functioning of medical equipment used in neonatal care.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with specialization in Pediatrics and Neonatology is required.
  • Valid medical license and board certification in Neonatology is necessary.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a neonatal intensive care unit is essential.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in team supervision and management.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and their families.
  • Experience conducting and publishing research in neonatal care is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to continued medical education and staying updated with neonatal healthcare advancements.
