Job Description

The Commis (Arabic) is an essential culinary role, responsible for assisting in the preparation and presentation of high-quality Arabic cuisine dishes. This position is designed for those with a passion for cooking and keen interest in expanding their skills in a professional kitchen environment. As a Commis, you will support the head chef and line cooks, participating in various phases of food preparation to ensure the consistent delivery of mouthwatering meals that celebrate Arabic culinary tradition. This role requires a willing to learn attitude, adaptability to fast-paced environments, and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of kitchen hygiene, safety, and quality in every dish.


Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs in preparing authentic Arabic cuisine dishes with precision and care.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning as required by recipes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and cooking equipment at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to prepare meals efficiently during peak hours.
  • Assist with the management of ingredient inventory and notify superiors of shortages.
  • Perform quality checks on ingredients to ensure freshness and adherence to health standards.
  • Coordinate with head chef on daily meal preparation plans and special event menus.
  • Ensure proper storage methods to preserve quality and extend ingredient shelf life.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support in menu development by suggesting new recipes or enhancing existing dishes.
  • Participate in training sessions to improve culinary skills and knowledge of Arabic cuisine.
  • Assist in plating and presentation to ensure dishes are appealing and visually attractive.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar kitchen or restaurant role.
  • Basic knowledge of traditional Arabic cuisine and cooking methods required.
  • Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
  • Excellent team player with good communication and multitasking skills.
  • Understanding of kitchen safety standards and hygiene regulations necessary.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new cooking techniques and recipes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
