Job Description

Metabolic Health is seeking a licensed Clinical Psychologist to provide professional review, interpretation, and clinical documentation of standardized psychological assessments and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) completed by patients as part of their routine clinical care.

The primary objective of this role is to ensure that psychological assessment findings are appropriately evaluated, documented, and integrated into patient care, while supporting compliant billing of eligible psychological assessment services in accordance with applicable regulatory, coding, and insurance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Psychological Assessment & Interpretation
  • Review completed psychological questionnaires and PROMs administered as part of patients baseline and follow-up assessments.
  • Provide professional interpretation of relevant standardized assessments, including:
    • PHQ-9 – Depression screening
    • GAD-7 – Anxiety screening
    • PAID – Diabetes-related emotional distress
    • EQ-5D-5L – Health-related quality of life
    • STOP-BANG – Sleep apnea risk screening
    • Other relevant psychological and behavioral health assessments
  • Evaluate clinically significant findings, considering patients medical history, symptoms, and relevant clinical information.
  • Identify patients requiring further psychological evaluation, intervention, or referral.

2. Clinical Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and document professional psychological assessment findings within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Provide structured clinical reports, where clinically indicated, including:
    • Assessments reviewed and their results
    • Clinical interpretation of findings
    • Relevant psychological and behavioral health concerns
    • Recommendations for further assessment, intervention, or referral
    • Documentation of professional evaluation time, where required
  • Ensure all documentation meets applicable clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement standards.
  • Communicate clinically significant findings to the treating physician and multidisciplinary care team.

3. Clinical Billing & Compliance

  • Support appropriate documentation for eligible psychological assessment and testing services.
  • Ensure that services submitted for reimbursement reflect the actual professional work performed and meet applicable CPT coding requirements.
  • Collaborate with the medical coding and billing teams to establish standardized documentation workflows.
  • Maintain records supporting medical necessity, professional interpretation, clinical decision-making, and time-based billing requirements, where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with DHA regulations, payer requirements, and professional scope-of-practice standards.

4. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with physicians, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to incorporate psychological findings into personalized care plans.
  • Recommend appropriate referrals for patients presenting with significant depression, anxiety, diabetes-related distress, or other psychological concerns.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized clinical pathways for psychological screening, assessment, and follow-up.

5. Quality Assurance & Clinical Outcomes

  • Support the standardization of psychological assessment interpretation and reporting.
  • Contribute to monitoring longitudinal psychological and patient-reported outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve assessment workflows, documentation quality, and patient care.

Scope of the Role

This position will primarily focus on professional psychological assessment, interpretation, documentation, and clinical recommendations, rather than routine psychotherapy sessions.

Direct psychological consultations or interventions may be provided when clinically indicated and within the psychologists licensed scope of practice.

All reimbursable services must independently satisfy medical necessity, professional qualification, documentation, and payer-specific requirements. Routine questionnaire scoring or review alone does not automatically qualify as a separately billable psychological testing service.
