Job Description

A Civil Engineer is a crucial asset in designing, planning, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures and infrastructure projects. This includes roads, railways, airports, bridges, dams, irrigation projects, power plants, and water and sewage systems. They play an essential role in both the public and private sectors, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and adhere to quality and regulatory standards. Civil Engineers need to have a strong understanding of construction methods and technology, as well as effective communication and problem-solving skills. They often work in a team environment, collaborating with architects, contractors, and other engineers.


Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and manage construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data for project planning purposes.
  • Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors.
  • Ensure that building code and safety standards are adhered to during the project.
  • Prepare detailed estimates of construction costs and project timelines.
  • Supervise the construction or renovation of buildings, roads, or other structures.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and subcontractors involved in the projects.
  • Conduct field surveys and investigations to gather construction site information.
  • Manage project materials and resources within allocated budgets.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs for construction activities.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to draft plans and specifications.
  • Manage changes to project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred but not mandatory initially.
  • Proven working experience as a Civil Engineer with a solid portfolio.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other industry-standard software.
  • Strong knowledge of construction standards, regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective report writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and under tight deadlines.
