Summary

The Airfield Civil Designer is proficient in airside operations, infrastructure, and systems, supporting multidisciplinary airside design projects to ensure quality deliverables within established deadlines and budgets. The Designer writes consultancy and technical reports, completes engineering calculations and reviews technical drawings for airside consultancy and design projects.

 

Key Responsibilities :

  • Effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders, presenting and defending the design and consulting deliverables with clarity and confidence.
  • Thoroughly understanding project assignments and adeptly breaking them down into specific, manageable tasks. This role requires sequencing these tasks, as well as assigning appropriate resources to each task.
  • Accurately estimating the time required to complete own and assigned tasks, setting realistic deadlines and ensuring they are achieved.

  • Support multidisciplinary airside design projects alongside project managers, senior designers, and technicians, including coordination with external consultants/specialists as needed.

  • Write detailed technical assessment for the airside infrastructure and its elements.

  • Assist in the preparation of airside infrastructure bills of quantities for bidding (pricing) and execution (production) stages.

  • Prepare quotation documents for Design & Consulting services during bidding stages, including cost estimations for civil works.
  • Perform airside engineering calculations, such as structural calculations for manholes and duct banks, steel structures and supporting elements of airside special systems, including load calculation (dead and wind load, load combinations), structural analysis and modelling, bearing strength, fatigue analysis, etc.
  • Review and prepare material specifications for the manholes, duct banks, supporting structures and foundations of approach masts, guidance signs, AVDGS, floodlighting, ground (apron) power units, etc.
  • Review airside consultancy reports for all civil infrastructure within the scope of the assigned project
  • Produce, support, or review pavement, airfield marking, ducts and pits layout drawings, installation detail drawings, as well as structural and fit-out drawings.
  • Provide technical support during the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance phases of airside infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings, support quality assurance, and propose improvements to internal procedures and tools based on project experience.
  • Adhere to the Autodesk Vault procedures ensuring all files created, received or submitted are correctly stored and set-up.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving safety, sustainability, and environmental standards, applying them to design and project delivery.
  • Support and mentor junior staff as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or similar qualifications.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the aviation industry.
  • Advanced understanding of project processes.
  • Familiarity with ADB Safegate’s full portfolio (products, systems and services).
  • Advanced level in Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault, ArcGIS Pro, AutoTURN, AviPLAN, and MS Office/MS Teams is desirable.
  • Intermediate understanding of airside operations.
  • Hands-on experience in designing of structures and plans in 3D
  • Knowledgeable in airside infrastructure including marking, visual and navaids, surveillance systems and VDGS.
  • Familiarity with international and local aviation regulations, including ICAO standards and recommended practices and guidance manuals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in international structural standards such as ASCE/SEI, ACI, AISC, ASTM, and Eurocode
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written); additional languages are advantageous.
  • Advanced communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team environment.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body or working toward professional certification (e.g., EIT, CEng) is desirable.
