The Teppanyaki Chef is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting food at the teppanyaki station while interacting with guests in a professional and entertaining manner. The role requires strong culinary skills, excellent food safety knowledge, and the ability to create a memorable dining experience through live cooking performances.
Guest Engagement & Entertainment Skills
Demonstrate exceptional showmanship and confidence while performing live cooking presentations.
Engage guests through friendly conversation and interactive dining experiences.
Create a fun and energetic atmosphere while maintaining professionalism and safety standards.
Perform traditional teppanyaki cooking techniques and table-side presentations with flair and precision.
Build rapport with guests by introducing menu items, ingredients, and cooking methods in an engaging manner.
Read the guest and adapt the level of interaction based on guest preferences and cultural backgrounds.
Encourage guest participation where appropriate while ensuring a comfortable and inclusive environment.
Handle guest questions, special requests, and dietary inquiries confidently and professionally.
Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm throughout service, even during busy periods.
Demonstrate strong communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.
Create personalized dining experiences for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations.
Utilize humour appropriately to enhance the guest experience while maintaining brand standards.
Coordinate timing between entertainment elements and food preparation to ensure seamless service.
Manage large groups and multiple guests effectively while ensuring everyone feels included and engaged.
Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
Represent the Benihana brand image and standard through professional appearance, excellent manners, and exceptional hospitality.
Anticipate guest needs and proactively deliver service that exceeds expectations.
Receive and act upon guest feedback to continuously improve the dining experience.
Foster repeat business by creating memorable interactions that encourage guest loyalty and positive reviews.
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Teppanyaki Chef or in a similar role.
Proven expertise in Indian cuisine and cooking techniques.
Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
Excellent knife skills and proficiency in kitchen equipment operation.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Food safety certification.
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
