Job Description

The Buyer for Fruits & Vegetables is a critical role in sourcing and procuring high-quality produce for a growing organization. This position demands a keen eye for quality, a deep understanding of market trends, and a passion for fresh, healthy produce. The successful candidate will establish and maintain relationships with local and international suppliers, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure that the products meet the company’s high standards and customer expectations. They will also collaborate closely with various departments such as logistics and quality control to ensure seamless operations. As a Buyer, you must be adept at analyzing market fluctuations, managing budgets, and making strategic purchasing decisions that align with the company's goals.


Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of fruits and vegetables for quality and reliability.
  • Negotiate contracts and purchase orders to ensure cost-effective buying strategies.
  • Monitor market trends to predict shifts in supply and demand for produce.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers to manage expectations and build strong relationships.
  • Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely and efficient delivery of products to warehouses and stores.
  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimize supplier base and improve cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and quality standards for all produce purchased.
  • Analyze sales and inventory data to forecast purchasing needs accurately.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to align product availability with promotions.
  • Evaluate and resolve any issues with the supply chain to minimize disruptions.
  • Attend industry trade shows to stay updated on new products, trends, and opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed reports on purchasing activities, including budget adherence and supplier performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a buyer or procurement specialist in the fresh produce industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in supplier relationship management.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret market data and forecast trends.
  • Deep understanding of logistics and supply chain management for perishable goods.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and regulations affecting fresh produce.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and procurement software applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
