Job Description

The role of Buyer for Fruits & Vegetables is an exciting opportunity for those who enjoy working with fresh produce and have a knack for negotiating supplier contracts. As a Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing high-quality fruits and vegetables to meet consumer demand while ensuring competitive pricing and maintaining stock levels. You will have a strong influence on product selection, focusing on quality, seasonality, and nutritional value. You will also play a key role in building and maintaining excellent relationships with suppliers and growers, ensuring that the supply chain remains efficient and cost-effective. This position requires excellent analytical skills to assess market trends and supplier performance, enabling the company to achieve its financial and customer satisfaction goals.


Responsibilities

  • Source and procure fruits and vegetables while ensuring optimal product quality and pricing.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed on product trends and customer preferences.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and growers.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure the best terms and conditions for the company.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with logistics to ensure efficient supply chain operations.
  • Assess supplier performance and conduct evaluations to promote optimal vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to align product selection with consumer promotions.
  • Analyze sales data to forecast demand and adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations regarding procurement practices.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to ensure fresh produce meets standards.
  • Manage budgets, cost control measures, and financial targets for the fruits and vegetables category.
  • Participate in trade shows and vendor meetings to stay updated with industry innovations and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of produce markets, pricing strategies, and procurement processes.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage supplier relationships.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to handle and interpret complex sales and inventory data.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
