Job Description

As an Automobile Painter, you will play an integral role in the auto body repair process, primarily focusing on the cosmetic enhancement of vehicles. Your expertise will ensure that the vehicles you work on look as good as new, restoring them to their original luster and attractiveness. You will be responsible for preparing surfaces for painting, applying undercoats and topcoats, and ensuring high-quality finishes that meet industry standards. A keen eye for detail and an understanding of color mixing, matching, and application techniques will be crucial in executing your duties effectively. You will work closely with other automotive technicians and service advisors, often collaborating to determine the best course of action for vehicle restoration and refinishing. An ideal candidate will possess a blend of artistic skills and technical know-how, coupled with a passion for perfection in auto body painting. This role requires a thorough understanding of different paint types and finishes, as well as expertise in using painting equipment and tools safely.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare automobile surfaces by sanding, scraping, and masking to ensure readiness for painting.
  • Select appropriate painting materials, including the correct primer, paint, and finishing products.
  • Mix colors to produce the desired shade and apply paint using spray guns and hand tools.
  • Apply primer and finish coats in accordance with product data sheet requirements to maintain quality.
  • Inspect and evaluate vehicle surfaces to identify areas that require repairs or touch-ups.
  • Maintain clean workspaces and equipment to prevent contamination and ensure quality finishes.
  • Utilize and maintain painting equipment and tools, ensuring they are in perfect working condition.
  • Collaborate with auto body technicians and service advisors to achieve comprehensive vehicle repairs.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and regulations while handling paint and related chemicals.
  • Document work performed and maintain accurate records of paint inventory and usage.
  • Stay updated with new painting techniques and products to enhance skills and efficiency.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing client inquiries and providing expert advice on painting services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive painting preferred.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience as an automobile painter.
  • In-depth knowledge of auto body painting processes and finishes.
  • Proficiency in using spray guns, paint mixers, and other automotive painting tools.
  • Strong ability to match colors and create custom shades as per the requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to adhere to safety regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and clients.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
