Job Description

An Audiologist is a healthcare professional who specializes in identifying, diagnosing, and treating disorders associated with hearing, balance, and other auditory-related areas. They work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds to treat hearing loss, ear noise (tinnitus), and balance problems (vertigo). Audiologists play a significant role in helping people improve their quality of life through the improvement of hearing and balance capabilities. They often work in hospitals, audiology clinics, doctors' offices, and sometimes collaborate with schools, contributing valuable insights to educational plans for hearing-impaired students. Using various sophisticated audiometric tests, an Audiologist can assess hearing and balance to develop and implement effective treatment plans, including the fitting and management of hearing aids and other assistive listening devices.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive auditory tests to diagnose patients’ hearing and balance issues.
  • Develop and implement audiological treatment plans tailored to each individual patient.
  • Fit, dispense, and manage hearing aids and other auditory prosthetic devices.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance of audiological equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Otolaryngologists and other healthcare professionals on patient treatment plans.
  • Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding hearing and balance disorders.
  • Stay updated on the latest audiology research and technological advancements in hearing aids.
  • Create detailed patient records and reports to monitor treatment progress and outcomes.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to educate and raise awareness about hearing health.
  • Provide auditory rehabilitation therapy to help improve communication skills in hearing-impaired individuals.
  • Administer tinnitus retraining therapy to patients suffering from persistent tinnitus symptoms.
  • Supervise and mentor audiology interns and support staff in carrying out clinical duties.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited audiology program is required.
  • Current licensed Audiologist in the state of practice with good standing.
  • Completion of a clinical internship or fellowship with hands-on audiology experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in the use of audiology equipment and software for diagnostic purposes.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning in audiology.
  • Previous experience in a clinical audiology setting, particularly with digital hearing aids.
