Job Description

There is an exciting new role within the Buildings Sustainability Team, which has been developed to meet the growing demands of the technical and strategic sustainability consultancy services at the built environment. Sustainability is a cross disciplinary field that cuts across key sectors.

The Associate Sustainability Consultant will provide technical leadership and strategic oversight across a portfolio of complex sustainability and green building certification projects. The role combines advanced technical expertise, project and team leadership, and client-facing responsibility, with accountability for quality, programme, and certification outcomes. The Associate will support business growth, mentor senior consultants, and act as a trusted advisor to clients and design teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of multiple sustainability and certification projects concurrently, with overall accountability for technical quality, programme, and outcomes.
  • Define and oversee sustainability and certification strategies for large or complex developments, including LEED, Mostadam, Estidama, and other rating systems.
  • Act as primary technical and client-facing lead on assigned projects, managing senior stakeholder relationships and expectations.
  • Provide technical direction and quality assurance for analyses including energy modelling, daylighting, carbon assessments, and building performance studies.
  • Review and sign off sustainability reports, scorecards, and submission documentation prior to client issue and third-party submission.
  • Oversee responses to assessor, authority, and certification body comments, ensuring timely and technically robust closure.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and specialist consultants to embed sustainability requirements across design and delivery.
  • Mentor and technically develop Senior Consultants and Consultants, providing guidance on delivery, documentation, and client engagement.
  • Support internal governance, QA processes, and continuous improvement of sustainability tools, templates, and methodologies.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposals, fee estimates, and technical inputs for bids and presentations.

Technical And Professional Skills

  • Advanced technical expertise in sustainable development and green building certification within the built environment.
  • Strong leadership, judgement, and decision-making capability across complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise senior and non-technical clients on complex sustainability matters.
  • Proven ability to manage risk, programme, and competing priorities across a project portfolio.
  • Commercial awareness, including understanding of scope control, fee management, and project profitability.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Typically 10 to 14 years of professional experience in sustainability consulting and green building certification delivery.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Building Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Accredited professional status in one or more sustainability rating systems, such as LEED, Estidama, Mostadam, WELL, or Fitwel.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large or complex projects through successful certification.
