Job Overview:

The Associate Subsea Engineer utilizes existing Subsea procedures to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the team, and they will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to Subsea and .

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • The Associate Subsea Engineer will be supporting FEED/EPCIC projects with engineering activities related to shallow water and deepwater subsea pipeline lateral buckling analysis, pipeline walking analysis, fracture mechanics, and 3D structural analysis
  • This position is within the Advance Analysis team and requires someone who is analytically minded with strong engineering skills to perform numerically intensive calculations
  • Learns the content and application of relevant industry codes, standards, guidelines, design methods, and analysis
  • Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks related to Subsea Engineering tasks for the installation of offshore facilities, including jackets and top sides
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete routine assignments under close supervision and mentoring
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures
  • Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others
  • Tender engineering support with an emphasis on document review, assisting with the preparation of subcontractor documents, bid evaluation, and vendor selection
  • Assist senior engineers with the preparation of technical reports, design calculations, engineering analysis, and interface with third parties, including subcontractors and verification bodies
  • Required to attend and prepare for project progress meetings and departmental meetings
  • Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements
  • Prepare sketches of detail design to guide Designers and check drawings
  • Keep the Area Lead/ Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns
  • Develop an awareness of costs related to own work
  • Develop a basic understanding of McDermotts business and the customers it serves
  • Develop basic knowledge of McDermotts business units and interactions, including engineering, fabrication, and marine functions
  • Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Understand and apply standards and procedures
  • Capture project lessons learned into McDermott’s Lessons Learned system
  • Participate in internal, customer, or third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents

Reports to:

Project: Lead Engineer

Functional: Supervising Department Manager

Liaise With: Engineers, Design Supervisor, and Designers of their own discipline

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelors Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience in oil and gas
  • Learning the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
  • Learning design techniques and analysis methods
  • Preferably Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society as applicable
  • Eager to learn
  • Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
  • HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
  • The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
  • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
  • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
  • The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
  • Exposure to finite element analysis packages (Abaqus, ANSYS)
  • Good knowledge in programming skills (Python, VBA, or C++) is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Attention to detail and the ability to think outside the box for innovative solutions
