Job Description

The Team

We are building a market-leading employment practice in the Middle East, advising multinational businesses, government entities and senior executives on their most complex and business-critical people issues.

Our work spans advisory, high-value disputes, global mobility, workplace investigations and strategic workforce projects, often with a cross-border dimension.

This is a rare opportunity for an excellent associate/managing associate to join a growing, high-quality team at an early stage, working closely with senior lawyers and clients, and playing a meaningful role in shaping the practice.

The Opportunity

This is not a traditional associate/managing associate role.

The successful candidate will work directly with clients from day one, advising on a broad mix of contentious and non-contentious matters including:

  • day to day employment advisory for regional and international clients;
  • complex employee relations issues and senior exits;
  • cross-border projects involving global mobility, restructurings and workforce strategy;
  • sensitive investigations;
  • enforcement of restrictive covenants and sensitive disputes;
  • nationalisation, reward and incentive structures.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development and thought leadership and to build meaningful client relationships as we grow the practice.

You should be committed to developing your career within employment within the region and will be able to demonstrate your passion for and experience in this area.

What makes this role different?

  • Direct client access - you will not be operating several layers removed
  • Broad, high quality work - not siloed or process driven
  • Growth platform - genuine opportunity to develop your profile and progress
  • Commercial focus - advice grounded in how businesses actually operate

Skills/Experience

We are looking for lawyers who combine exceptional technical skills and training with commercial awareness and a genuine interest in building something.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2-7 years PQE gained within a leading employment practice (UK or international law firm);
  • strong experience across a broad range of employment matters;
  • excellent drafting and analytical skills;
  • excellent organisational and prioritising skills, in order to meet the demands of challenging and commercial internal and external clients, as well as dealing with competing priorities;
  • the ability to produce high quality first drafts of transactional and ancillary documents;
  • strong project management experience;
  • experience of managing due diligence processes;
  • excellent written and interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently and independently with clients and others;
  • the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels;
  • excellent attention to detail;
  • the ability to effectively manage their own workload;
  • the ability, at all times, to exercise high standards of client care and service in a professional and pleasant manner;
  • proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure;
  • an adaptable and flexible approach and be pro-active and able to take initiative; and
  • an interest in undertaking business development activities both internally and externally.

Regional Experience Is Helpful But Not Essential.

Please note that this job profile is not an exhaustive list of duties but merely an outline of the key components of the role. You may be required by your line manager to take on additional responsibilities when requested.
