About Our Construction Quantum Team

Whether it’s to prevent or prepare for potential project complications before they begin, manage and mitigate risk on an ongoing project, or resolve disputes rooted in issues from the past, Secretariat experts understand the complexities that can result in delays and costs. Our quantity surveyors, engineers, forensic accountants, project managers, architects, schedulers, and industry specialists are experts in the valuation of construction works of all types and have experience handling projects in every corner of the world.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an ambitious, self-motivated, and proactive team player to join our growing team of highly experienced quantity surveying experts, based in our Dubai office.

The ideal candidate will be a quantity surveying professional with 1-3 years’ experience of working on construction and engineering projects with either a consultant, contractor, or client. Ideally, previous experience of working with an Expert Witness and taking responsibility for leading streams of work and drafting sections of reports or appendices is preferred.

Your primary duties as an Associate, will be to provide support to testifying Expert Witnesses, with a long-term view of one day becoming a testifying expert in your own right.

Role

Some of the tasks you will fulfil in this role before you progress your career with us, will be as follows:

  • Supporting world-renowned Quantum experts in dispute resolution, litigation support and expert witness evidence;
  • Performing data research, management and analysis, and assisting in drafting sections of expert reports;
  • Reviewing documentation (e.g. drawings, specifications, reports, estimates, variations, correspondence and financial data) to identify key details and metrics used to develop expert reports;
  • Assisting in analysis or preparation of valuations and the processing and use of big data;;
  • Reviewing documentation (e.g. drawings, specifications, reports, estimates, variations, correspondence and financial data) to develop robust appendices.

Requirements

The successful candidate is likely to possess the following or similar qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in building construction, engineering, quantity surveying or related field;
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a relevant field of quantity surveying, cost engineering, contracts management, construction management;
  • Strong software skills: MS Office Suite (especially Word & Excel), CostX / BIM / Buildsoft / Expert Estimation or similar;
  • Experience in the preparation of first principles construction cost estimates;
  • Familiarity with construction cost management;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and comfortable with large sets of data;
  • Able to adapt to a dynamic consultancy environment;
  • Able to develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems;
  • A team player;
  • English language (written and spoken), other languages an advantage;
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Willing to occasionally travel domestically and internationally.
