Job Description

The Assistant Shopkeeper plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of a retail store. This position involves supporting the main shopkeeper in various tasks, ensuring that customer service is maintained at a high level, and that the shop runs smoothly and efficiently. The Assistant Shopkeeper must be adept at managing stock, handling customer inquiries, and maintaining the visual aesthetics of the store. Additionally, they must work collaboratively with other staff members to create a seamless shopping experience for customers. This role is vital for the success of the store as it bridges the gap between management and the frontline customer service experience.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the shopkeeper in overseeing store operations and daily retail activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service and address customer inquiries or issues efficiently.
  • Manage inventory levels, including stocking shelves and organizing storage areas.
  • Ensure the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing to customers.
  • Support cash handling procedures and assist with daily financial reconciliations.
  • Help with training new staff members and guiding them in store procedures.
  • Participate in merchandising efforts to promote sales through displays and promotions.
  • Monitor product quality, report damages, and coordinate with suppliers when necessary.
  • Work closely with the shopkeeper in planning and executing sales strategies.
  • Handle customer complaints and escalate issues to management when required.
  • Coordinate with the team to ensure stock rotation and prevent product expiration.
  • Assist in organizing special events and promotions within the store.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and manage time efficiently in busy periods.
  • Attention to detail in maintaining store presentation and managing inventory.
  • Basic numeracy skills and experience with cash register systems advantageous.
  • Enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
